Castle Harbor Marina Sinking?

This past weekend the BCT ran an article about the deteriorating conditions over at Castle Harbor.  It definitely raises some eye brows as many have no idea about what is going on over by the river.  The best quote of the article has to be: "We have a government we can't afford and a government that doesn't do anything."

"It looks like a hurricane blew through Delran and wreaked havoc on the Castle Harbor Marina.

While the powerful winds that blew through the region on Thursday damaged the marina, a number of people in the area say it's just the latest in a long string of events that have left the marina off St. Mihiel Drive in disrepair.

Area residents, businessmen and boaters said they haven't seen the owner in weeks. 

We have fished out water heaters, cushions, wood and other trash from the sunken boats since the summer..."

Delran Wings To Go: Gone

Not sure exactly when it happened, but very quietly Wings To Go in Delran flew the coup.

Things sure are not looking good for small eateries in Hartford Corners.  If I'm not mistaken, this is the third to close up shop now.   

Bucci Funiture Going Out of Business

Looks like another one is biting the dust.  First Dynasty Diner closes, now Bucci Furniture.

After 60+ years in Delran, this is the scene today:

And right across the street, construction is moving along real quick on Walgreens.  You know, because we're really desperate for a drug store in town!!

Lowes or Home Depot?

Last Sunday I spent much of my afternoon at Lowe's as we're renovating our bathroom. I did pick up a few things from Home Depot as well, but between the two in Delran I tend to prefer Lowe's. It seems to be larger and usually has a better selection (in my own personal opinion). The Home Depot in Burlington is pretty big and I do like that one...but it's more of a hike.

So between the two, I tend to gravitate to Lowe's. How about you? Which do you prefer?

Delran Post Office IS open

No, it doesn't look like much right now - but yes - this is our Delran Post Office.  During conversations with some residents the past couple of weeks, I was surprised to learn that many think the Post Office has closed down.  Believe it or not, the Post Office is very open and ready for business. 

What you see in the picture is the result of someone parking their car in the lobby many months ago.  That's right, in case you missed it, one lucky lady decided to see what would happen if she drives her car through a building. 

So yes - it looks boarded up, it's missing a sign and looks closed.  But the Delran Post Office is very much open!

KFC of Delran: Closed

Closed

One word says it all.  While I actually like KFC, if you've ever been to this particular location, you'd agree with me that you're not sorry to see it go. 

Dynasty Diner Shuts It's Doors

What has been a longtime landmark on Rt. 130 in Delran will soon be no more.  After roughly 30 years, Dynasty Diner is closing it's doors forever.  Located at the intersection with Fairview Street, Dynasty Diner has been a constant in the ever changing face of Rt. 130.

From what I've heard, the building will come down later this year and in it's place will be yet another drugstore.  I believe Walgreens is slated to open at this location. 

I personally think Walgreens is nice, but do we really need another drugstore?  Walgreens will join an already crowded landscape with Rite Aid, CVS, Target, ACME just to name a few.    

Floating Over Delran: Anthony DiFilippo

As I was searching through the blogsphere this past week, I stumbled upon the above picture of Delran.  I personally thought it was a great picture and wanted to post it here to share. 

Upon researching who took this photo, I found out it was Delran's own Anthony DiFilippo of 26 Street Studio.  Anthony has been a Delran resident since 1974 and many know him through the photo's he takes for the Delran AA.  The following is a quote from Anthony:

"It has been a long time dream of mine to have people see the world like I see it.  It was my 13th Birthday, 12/26/1981 when I was given my first SLR camera. I looked through the lens and saw the world in a different way.  Since that day I try to show that stopping moments in time will help to enjoy them forever. 

Anyone can click a shutter button, but can they capture the moment? can they look back 25 years later and have it mean something to them or anyone that sees it? 
I want you to see what I see - to feel the moment in time that made me press that shutter.  They all mean something to me...

What's the new restaurant?

If you've driven along Rt. 130 anytime over the past few months, I'm sure you've seen the construction near Millside Plaza where the old Lonestar Restaurant was.  Lonestar was demolished back in October 2007 and construction quickly began shortly after.

So what is being built?  A Chili's restaurant is on the way.  Chili's is a restaurant chain headquartered out of Dallas, TX.  From wikipedia, "Chili's serves American food influenced by Tex-Mex cuisine".  You can click to view their menu online. 

Regardless if you're a fan of Chili's or not...you have to be pleased that the site will be put to good use after sitting vacant for so long!
